About Us

The University of Birmingham Polo Club was founded in 2008 and is one of the fastest growing clubs at the university. Our home club is Rugby Polo Club and we are coached by an internationally experienced team including British 4 goal player Philip Baker. We play at some of the world’s largest polo tournaments and often feature in leading polo magazines including ‘Living Polo’ and ‘Polo Times’.

Key to our success as a club is how we make polo accessible to all students who take an interest, regardless of their ability, social background or riding experience.
• Rugby Polo club – has a large playing membership and one of the best arena seasons in the country. It recently hosted the Polo-Crosse World Cup.
• Polo Times and Living Polo are read and visited by a large number of polo players across the world.  The former sells in excess of 10,000 magazines a month and its website receives 65,000 visits each month. Both have written reports and featured photographs of our teams.
• We play at several big tournaments each year including the SUPA Winter University Arena Nationals, which is the largest polo tournament in the world with over 130 teams from over 40 Universities. We were successful in winning the competition in 2011 and 2013. We also play at the SUPA Summer nationals held at Dallas Polo Club, won by our intermediate team in 2016. We also play in smaller tournaments such as University Challenge hosted at Rugby and new to this year the SUPA polo league which has regional qualifiers.
• We are a very international club and have members based in Dubai, Pakistan, Abu Dhabi, Germany and South America amongst other countries. Many of our members play at their home clubs over the summer.

Polo – The Social Side

Being a member of UBPC, you will discover that playing polo is only half of the fun! Our social secretaries work extremely hard throughout the year to put on brilliant socials on a weekly basis, including club meals, drinks, nights out and visits to tournaments. In the past they have organised visits to Guards Polo Club, Polo In The Park and Jack Wills Varsity Polo. Furthermore, we usually camp at the Summer and Winter National tournaments where there is always a party!

UBPC also welcomes social members, for those who do not play polo but want to attend our social events!
